Authentication

To use one of our computers in the labs, current students, faculty, and staff, must log on to a machine using their CruzID and blue password which is the username and password given for their UCSC Google email account. We use authentication as a security measure. Sharing UCSC accounts and account information with others is strictly against University policy. It is seen as a security risk and should never be done under any circumstance.

In the libraries, community patrons can log on to a machine by using a “library” account. Once logged on to a library computer, they can create a printing account (if they have not done so previously) to pay for print jobs online using a credit card. Please note that community patrons cannot logon and print in the Learning Technologies labs as they are not allowed in the Learning Technologies labs.

With authentication comes the need to logout. If people don’t logout, the next customer can do malicious things to the open UCSC account. We’ve created a utility consultants can use when they find a customer forgot to log off. The utility will send an email to the customer reminding them to log off in the future. Please refer to Consultant Duties and Responsibilities for the logout procedure.
