Supported Software
Obviously it is not reasonable to expect anyone to be an expert at every piece of software available in the labs and libraries. Because of this we have defined a set of “supported software” for the Learning Technologies labs and libraries. Supported software packages are the ones that Learning Technologies Consultants and Staff officially provide customer support for. For supported software you should be able to answer most questions fairly easily and should be able to answer virtually all questions with the help of manuals, other consultants, staff, etc. However, if you receive questions on software that is not on this list, don’t be afraid to ask for help! As a consultant you are in the position to provide as much service to the customers as you are able.
Learning Technologies Labs Supported Software:
Windows | Mac OSX |
Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint (all of MS Office) | Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint (all of MS Office) |
Adobe Creative Cloud Suite |
The table above represents a selection of software that we expect our consultants to be very well versed in and understand how and when to use these. However, the labs and libraries have much more software than this and we encourage all consultants to ask questions on any and all software in the locations when issues arise. For a complete list of all the software offered in our labs and the libraries please visit https://its.ucsc.edu/computer-labs/software/.
We also provide many other general use and class software that we do not officially support, like the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. For these packages you should be able to help customers do basic functions (i.e. saving and printing), but you are not responsible for being able to answer other questions. Customers who need advanced help on unsupported software should be referred to their professor or TA’s.
Once proficiency with supported software is achieved, you should concentrate on familiarizing yourself with other programs and utilities available in the labs and libraries. Increasing knowledge improves the service we can give to our customers.
