Crown

This lab is an unstaffed lab, which will be opened by the opening consultant at Ming Ong and closed by the closing Ming Ong consultant. While the Crown Lab will unlock automatically and the alarm is disarmed by the Custodial staff, the opening consultant must still perform the other opening duties there. Consultants should open Crown AFTER performing opening duties at Ming Ong. This is because there are typically classes scheduled at Ming Ong at 9:00am and therefore Ming Ong needs to be ready for classes.

Crown lab hours:

Monday-Thursday: 8:00 am – 8:30 pm
Friday: 8:00 am – 5:30 pm
Saturday-Sunday: CLOSED

The Crown Lab occasionally has classes scheduled there as with any staffed lab. There will be a sign asking instructors and customers in the Crown Lab to contact the ITS Help Desk if they have any questions or issues.

  • If you are asked to go over to Crown and assist a customer and feel that Ming Ong can be left alone briefly, you should go over to Crown immediately and provide assistance.
  • If it is after 5:00 pm on a weekday and Ming Ong is busy you should tell the customer that you will be over as quickly as you can, and leave as soon as you’ve finished assisting the customers or classes in Ming Ong that need help.

Whenever you leave Ming Ong to assist at Crown you should announce to the Ming Ong Lab that you are leaving to help out at Crown and should be back shortly. Ensure that the printer is full of paper, double check to make sure the consultant cabinet is locked, and put up the “Consultant will return in 5 minutes” sign. Once you get to the Crown lab, assist the customer or instructor as you would in an attended lab, and return to the Ming Ong lab when you are done.

Opening Crown

The opening Ming Ong Consultant needs to go to Crown AFTER opening Ming Ong and complete the following:

  1. Ensure the exterior door is unlocked. The interior lab door Omnilock should also be unlocked. Use your Omnilock code to enter if it’s not unlocked and report a Facilities Issue.
  2. Check for paper jams, and refill the paper trays just below the “fill line” in the tray. We don’t want our customers to run out of paper when the lab is unstaffed!
  3. Replace the toner when the printer control panel indicates that there is 2% or less toner remaining. You can check the toner level by accessing the ‘Printer Status’ page on LTweb. Go to the Crown Lab Page. You will now see the printer status and toner level for the lab you are working at.
  4. Submit a Support Request on LTweb for any computer errors or issues you see with the workstations or printer.
  5. Do a general lab inspection. Is there evidence of vandalism or other facility issues?

Closing Crown

The Ming Ong closing consultant is responsible for closing the Crown Lab. If you have a closing shift, walk over to crown and do the following:

  1. Get anyone who is in the lab to leave ASAP (there is a lab hours sign on the door telling customers when the lab closes).
  2. Refill the paper tray just below the “fill line” in the tray.
  3. Close all windows. Tidy up the lab if necessary.
  4. Check the computers and lockdown hardware to see if anything was tampered with.
  5. Arm the lab alarm (the code is the same as Ming Ong).
  6. Verify the lab door is locked when you exit. The Omnilock is programmed to lock automatically when the lab is closed for business.
  7. Return to Ming Ong and finish your shift. If there were any signs of tampering or any issues, use the rest of your time on your Ming Ong shift to log or communicate the issues as as needed. This is specifically why we chose to close Crown half an hour before the end of the shift.

*Note: If you arrive at Crown after the scheduled closing time, the Omnilock will already be locked. You will need to enter your Omnilock code to enter the lab in order to complete the rest of the closing duties.

Crown Lab Lost and Found

  • When closing Crown, please place any and all Lost and Found items into the Lost and Found bin.
  • When opening Crown, please check the Lost and Found bin for any valuable items (use your own discretion when assessing “value”). Bring any valuable items to Ming Ong and treat them as you would any valuable item left at Ming Ong. The one exception is that you should mark “Crown” as the lab.
  • Customers seeking valuable lost items in the Crown lab will be directed to contact the consultant at Ming Ong via a sign.

Can’t Get Into Crown?

The Crown lab has external doors that can cause problems if they are locked when you go over to Crown. If you find the doors are locked, please refer to the emergency contact phone list and be sure to report a Facilities/Class Issue.
