Introduction

In general, we try to make all Learning Technologies spaces very similar but ultimately there are some differences and idiosyncrasies in the labs and libraries that can result in different Consultant responsibilities outside of the routine ones. This section will give you an overview of all of our labs and libraries including important details about them that differ from the norm. Be sure you are familiar with this information for any of the labs or libraries you regularly work at and review it before you sub a shift at another location. You can also find further information online at https://its.ucsc.edu/computer-labs/descriptions/index.html.

General Temporarily Unstaffed Lab Procedure

This Procedure applies to the temporarily unstaffed labs at Rachel Carson College, BE109, Cowell Apartments, and Ming Ong.

  • Fill printer tray(s) just below the “fill line” in the tray. We don’t want our customers to run out of paper when the lab is unstaffed!
  • Replace the toner when the printer control panel indicates that there is 2% or less toner remaining. You can check the toner level by accessing the ‘Printer Status’ on the corresponding lab page. You will now see the printer status and toner level for the lab you are working at.
  • Place the orange “Lab Temporarily Unstaffed” sign near the consultant station.
  • Collect any headphones that were checked out to customers.
  • Move the Handbook and any other loose Learning Technologies property to the consultant cabinet. Make sure the supply cabinet combo lock is secure!
  • Tidy up the lab, push in chairs, etc.
  • Announce to anyone in the lab that you are leaving and that the lab will remain open but unstaffed.
