McHenry Library

The McHenry Library has Mac and Windows computers, and copiers available to UCSC students, faculty, and community patrons. Learning Technologies manages the non-specialized public computing desktop machines. This means that the computer configuration on the public computing computers aligns with our lab environment. The libraries now have the same software packages that are available in our labs. UCSC affiliate’s AFS disk space (a network file storage area available for people to store their files in) will be automatically located on the desktop. Any files placed in this folder will automatically be available to UCSC students and faculty on all library and lab computers.

The McHenry Library has a consultant desk located near the Reference Desk on the Second Floor. This is where you are expected to work and clock in to your shift. Supplies can be found in the staff area in Room 2230.  When entering Room 2230, you will want to turn right into the hallway and here you will notice a supply cabinet as well as boxes of paper.

Once you start your shift, make sure you know where the other printers and computers are in the library, since you are responsible for this equipment. There are also opening and closing procedures and chores associated with these pieces of equipment. To view a map of all the printers and computers in the library, go to the “Guides” tab and click on Consultant Resources. There are Library public computing maps located under “Library Resources”.

You are responsible for filling the outside printer with paper and toner. There are also opening and closing procedures associated with these pieces of equipment.

The McHenry Library also has three main areas where there are workstations and printers. Consultants are responsible for servicing the following areas:

  • Digital Commons South (DSC) – ground level
    • Has Windows and Macintosh Computers and one printer
  • Info Commons North – second floor
    • Has Windows and Macintosh Computers, two printers
  • Info Commons South – second floor
    • Has Windows Computers and one printer
  • McHenry Floor (2 on second floor, 2 on third floor, and 2 on fourth floor)

Consultants working in the libraries are also responsible for assisting customers with the copiers (for example, paper jams, or changing toner). There are two copiers in the 2nd Floor InfoCommons, one copier around the corner from the elevator on both the third and fourth floor. There is no change machine in the library. The cashier’s office in Hahn Student Services can provide change during their business hours. However, problems with copy cards are referred to the Campus Copier Program. Further information about copying can be found at https://library.ucsc.edu/services/computing/copying Consultants are responsible for servicing the Microfilm Scanner located in IC South. Any problems should be reported to consmgr and with an appropriate tech request.
