Position Summary
All Learning Technologies Student Consultants have four primary responsibilities:
- To provide computer assistance to our customers.Â
- To ensure that scheduled classes run smoothly.
- To monitor printing.
- To ensure that everyone is following the policies to maintain security, safety, and cleanliness in the labs and libraries.Â
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
- Ability to work the shifts assigned to you.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact well with the diverse campus community.Â
- A basic familiarity of common applications (word processing, web browsing, and email clients, etc.) and at least one of our supported operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, Windows, and Linux).Â
- Ability to accurately follow detailed written and oral instructions. Ability to multi-task and maintain smooth operation of the working environment at all times.Â
- Knowledge of or ability to learn the general operations of the Learning Technologies computer labs and libraries.Â
- Ability to provide instruction on technical subjects to non-technical customers.Â
- Ability to uphold and enforce standard policies in the labs and libraries. Ability to learn new hardware and software and basic troubleshooting steps.
Duties and Responsibilities:
50% Provide assistance to lab and library customers using the computer equipment and software, with an emphasis in teaching computer proficiency to novice customers. Work with instructors/TAs to ensure the smooth operation of classes or sections that are held in the computer labs.
25% Perform basic maintenance in the labs and libraries including monitoring and facilitating printing, loading printer paper, removing and replacing printer toner cartridges, periodic lab cleaning, and other tasks as assigned in the Student Consultant Handbook or by the Management team.
25% Monitor computer labs and public computing environment at the libraries: Ensure that the hardware in the lab is used properly and is not being abused. Enforcing Learning Technologies lab policies regarding conduct and safeguarding equipment against vandalism or theft.
A probationary training period (at $16.50/hr.) is required for the first full quarter of this position. Upon successful completion of the probationary period employees will be reclassified to full Student Consultant status (at $16.83/hr).
